Guides Ilana Marcus Ilana has spent the majority of her life poking around the landscape of Southern California. Her admiration of wild places was kindled years ago while living in Los Angeles and using both hiking and climbing in the surrounding areas as a refuge from the bustle and stress of city life. Throughout her years of sport climbing and traditional climbing, she developed a passion for sharing these beautiful experiences through teaching the sport of climbing. Ilana has been featured in various media outlets including Canyoneering: A Guide to Techniques for Wet and Dry Canyons (How To Climb Series) by Dave Black, Gripped Magazine, Pasadena Magazine and as an expert climbing rigger for MTV’s Parental Control (Season 7 – “Heather”). Ilana is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles with a B.S. in Chemistry. In addition to rock climbing, Ilana’s hobbies include surfing, mountain biking, ice climbing, canyoning, hiking and yoga. In 2012, Ilana was awarded the distinguished Presidents’ Silver Volunteer award for her volunteer work as a civilian Emergency Department EMT in a military hospital. Ilana continues to volunteer as both an EMT and climbing instructor/organizer for a non-profit women’s climbing group .
