My Crest Jewels Ilana Jesse, September 26December 14 Yosemite Valley – Yosemite NP. Crest Jewel (10b, 10 pitches, “Trad”) An endless slab climb on Yosemite’s famous granite. We started climbing at 8:30a and topped out at 1:30p. This is the ultimate: “Look Ma, No Hands” type of climb. Purely because there are no hands, only upwards foot scooting for about 1000’. It takes a pitch or so to get really comfortable on this and you quickly become selective with the orange versus black polish characteristics of the rock. Black polish = good friction = happy feet. All in all, a rest day for our hands and a lot of “downward dog” needed to stretch out our cramped up calves!
