Trip Report: Lead Climbing Skills Ilana Jesse, September 21December 14 I’m not sure who had more fun this trip, the climbing guide or our client. Adam, our client has been with us since the beginning of his climbing career. All major climbing milestones he has reached have been shared with Thrillseekers Anonymous, so as you can imagine watching him lead climb his first sport route was rewarding as his mentor. In anticipation of many more trips to the crag, Adam loaded up with the sport climbing essentials: quickdraws and a rope. Our recommendation for these were the Petzl Spirit Express Quickdraws and the Mammut Gravity 10.2mm – Superdry rope. Loaded up with the creme de la creme sport climbing gear and a review on proper clipping technique, anchor set-up and rope handling, Adam sent his first lead climb in Malibu! He lead a few routes in th 5.6-5.9 range. We couldn’t be more proud and can’t wait to take him on his next lead climbing adventure. The adventure didn’t stop there. Our hike out of the canyon sent adrenaline surging when we surprised a young rattlesnake. She was probably as excitedseeing us as we were seeing her. When the excitement abated, we were able to enjoy the sun slowly setting in the canyon and the resulting beautiful colors. Uncategorized Sport Climbing
